The book was well written, though partly uses “old English” (the best, quickest example being the word daemon = demon) and for that it was slightly harder to read than was necessary, but on the other hand the style suited the book well.
The beginning of the book didn’t suck me in immediately, but very soon thereafter I was quite invested in it, and I didn’t put the book down for much else besides sleeping and eating. The book both moved me to tears and made me laugh, loudly. I think that the characters were well written, they were deep and believably human.
Most of the book happens in the span of two weeks, and based on that, one could say that the development of the romantic relationship was fast; but while reading the book there is so much going on at once that the progress is agonizingly slow. However through common hardships I thought the relationship developed naturally in the span of a few days, and the rate of progress did create a great anticipation for the ending of the book. I mean to say that for this book the romance aspect was more like a spice, it wasn’t everything. This book has a story to tell besides the romance.
The book also illustrated humanity well, in the worst sense of the word “humanity”. I dislike reading about it, but it also told of the author’s good understanding of the human nature. For this book, I suppose it was a necessary evil.

For a first try ( I think) it is a very good novel. There are parts were editing is needed, but the structure is very good, the storytelling intriguing and while the romance wasn’t the priority, the story compelled you to read it.
One thing about the romance , I think there should have been more hints of the attraction between them. I think some inner thoughts of how Alaric found Everet attractive or that being with men was actually his proclivity, would have made their relationship feel more true. If I didn’t know the story was about them, it would have come as a surprise.
Other than that, this genre is my favorite so it came as a pleasant surpise.

Amazing book! Sure, it is a little slow to start because there is a lot of information to explain the setting and so on, but it very quickly becomes hard to put down and makes for an interesting afternoon.
I agree with the other reviews that it certainly isn’t perfect and could maybe use a little work here and there, but I liked that it did not focus solely on the relationship between the main characters. The story was really captivating and forcing romance into every page has made even published works (that people HAVE TO pay money for) a bore. Or maybe that’s just my opinion. I just can’t stand characters that can’t go two seconds without daydreaming about luscious lips and so on and not getting anything done because of it. But ah well, this book certainly didn’t disappoint me in that respect.
However, I do agree that maybe the romance was a little too subtle? As artemisia said, it might come as a surprise for some because sure, there is flirting, but it seemed more like banter than actual interest? I don’t know. I don’t think that it is absolutely necessary for anyone really, to state if they like men or not. It’s not like Alaric seemed super straight or anything. And I mean, (POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT)
following Alaric with his eyes at the Gala and not being too happy about the attention he is getting is kinda obvious, even though the inner thoughts did not suggest jealousy or anything.
Anyway. I suck at writing reviews, I think that much is obvious. But I still really enjoyed the book, would recommend it to everyone that is into the genre and I eagerly await the next installment 🙂

I really enjoyed this book, and once started I couldn’t stop reading (which is quite something, taking in consideration that I’m Spanish and that English is not my mother language, and that there was some words that were difficult to understand… maybe because they were old English?).
That said, the story and the world and society that describes is quite interesting and I liked it a lot. It is a very nice fantastic novel itself, and that is the best part about it because I found the “romance” a bit too sudden. If I didn’t know that it had to happen, I wouldn’t have expected it because there wasn’t any signs of mutual attraction (or at least I missed them). Not that I mind it too much, I find nice that the romance is not the focus of the novel.
Anyway, as I said before, the plot of the story is interesting enough and I would love to read a second part ^_^

As I do with each book I took my time to read your Fellfire Summer Miss Delecour.
I liked all your characters, not only Alaric and Everet, they were intriguing, interesting and mysterious, endearing for most of them even Vizick I must say. I enjoyed the world you created (the up and down, rich and poor mingled with the land position was a great idea) and would like to read how Everet will live in Alaric’s society. It would be a good balance and let us readers see them build their relationship as lovers because it came late in the story and it’s always pleaseant to witness the daily signs of affection between endearing characters.
It was a good read ! Though I want more. I’m looking forward for the next book.
At first as english is not my language I had a hard time with the fellfire’s words. Maybe a glossary for the wandering stranger would be useful.

The book starts out slow but the world building has an amazing payoff at the end. The romance wasn’t really a focus point but the character interaction was well written and engaging. The romance was quick to develop but it’s not a fairytale, the book ends realistically and the well set up for the next novels.
The intrigue, the complexity of social issues and fantasy/steampunk elements are well written and intriguing, the last half of the book is impossible to put down so be prepared!
Overall one of better written m/m fantasy novels and a phenomenal effort for a first time author. It’s leagues ahead of other books in this genre.

This was an absolute treasure of a book! The world and characters were all rather complex and lovely. There was action and humor and a little bit of romance. The ending felt like a reward and was more optimistic than I expected. I’m greatly looking forward to anything else in this series! ^3^

I don’t know if this will show up as a “verified owner” because I didn’t create an account when I purchased this book a few months ago, but pay for it I did and it was money well spent: “Fellfire Summer” is an incredible action-fantasy novel which deserves 5 Stars!
I always approach self-published works with some reservations, but “Fellfire Summer” needs none. The writing is tight, the world-building exquisite, and the characters three-dimensional. Unless I’ve missed something in the fantasy genre in the past few years, this world is completely unlike any other. While some names are jokes, all other words unique to this universe are original yet easy to understand. This is an insanely hard thing for writers to balance and Blayre Delecour has a deft hand!
If you approach the book as a romance, it may disappoint because it isn’t one. I actually put off reading it because I prefer reading romances in my free time, and I wanted to experience “Fellfire Summer” with an open mind. While I can see where some reviewers are coming from with the sex scene (I’d like to recommend the book to friend who’d be very uncomfortable), I didn’t find the romance to be unexpected or unanticipated. Alaric only seems straight until you realize that he’s been describing his own affairs the entire time. I think it’s more interesting that we don’t spend half of the book trying to figure out who is or isn’t or cares if they are gay or not. I would also say that Everet doesn’t change so much as become increasingly comfortable with Alaric. But I have also read literally hundreds of romance novels in the past five years, so subtlety may read to me more easily. Personally I think it shows a mature restraint and excellent pacing. Also, I adore the lack of character ages. It kept me thinking about the characters honestly instead of having reservations about how gross, or young, or wrinkly they are.
“Fellfire Summer” is brilliant! Incredible writing! Just fantastic! I can’t wait for Lir’s installation and to (maybe?) one day see it on bookstore shelves!
